Dear Outdoor Enthusiasts,
Did everyone notice that winter (“tracking snow”) arrived nearly to the minute that deer season (“muzzle loader season”) ended? I sat on deer stand that entire Saturday, with great hopes that I had finally figured out where I needed to be to get “in the money” for the biggest deer contest. It was within my reach! Alas, no deer, no payout. As I left the woods, a few flakes started to fall. I stopped to chat with the landowner and when I left an hour later, there was an inch of snow covering the roads and my truck. Next year! Unofficial word has it that 3 generations of the Higgins family will share the proceeds of the deer contest, although not the top prize. Deane Smith will announce the official results at the January meeting.
Our January meeting will be on Thursday the 4th with dinner served at 6:00 PM. Our speaker will be our very own, always entertaining, Peter Bartley who will talk about Project Game Thief. PGT is probably something most avid hunters and fishermen have heard about but don’t know the details. As a member of the PGT advisory board, Peter can tell us some of the inner workings of the program and highlight some of their recent successes. Hope to see you there and bring a friend. Learn about some of your club’s winter plans and how you can join the fun.
December 4, 2017 PCCA monthly meeting, dinner served at 6pm with roast pork, potato, vegetable, salad, rolls and dessert. The cost is $10.00 pp. Our own member, Peter Bartley will be the speaker. Hopefully the temperatures will be a little bit milder than on this frigid December day.
Hope that everyone had a joyous Christmas and New Year’s Day. Christmas was definitely a snowy one and I am so glad that I was able to stay close to home, travelling must have been a real nightmare.
Things have been pretty quiet around the clubhouse for the last couple of weeks and now it’s time to get back in the swing of activities as we enter the new year.
We will be having new shingles installed on the club house roof over the large dining room. There were several shingles blown off during the big wind storm and we will get some of the cost to install the new shingles through our insurance company. The job will be done when weather permits.
Plans for the Sportsman Show are progressing with lots of space still left to fill. Because the Boat Show is the same weekend we have lost our biggest vendor, Port Harbor Marine and Old Town Canoe has notified us that they will no longer be able to be in our show, so we need you, our members to scout around and help us find vendors to fill the show. This is the meat of our operation and it is important for all of us to do what we can to keep this show productive by encouraging people to be a new or returning vendor at the show. Woody and Mark are willing to talk to anyone interested in being a part of the show and will help and guide them to make it possible and a pleasant experience for them as well
