PENOBSCOT TRAILS – PCCA NEWSLETTER
The PCCA is a volunteer organization comprised of sportsmen and sportswomen from the local area. Thanks for all of your program suggestions turned in at the last meeting. They were very helpful and we will begin using them in January. While we will never be able to use all of them, we can always consider new suggestions as we go along.
The meeting on December 7 will feature our postponed meeting with the adult and youth members of the Maine Youth Fish and Game Association from the Old Town area. They have a very impressive facility and programs at Pickerel Pond along the Stud Mill Road. We are looking forward to meeting them and jointly working on projects to benefit the next generation of sportsmen and women.
Wow! I attended my first PCCA Hunter’s Breakfast on November 19. When I arrived at 4 AM, there were already a number of vehicles in the parking lot. No, not patrons lined up early in anticipation of a great meal but a great bunch of PCCA volunteers getting ready for the 4:30 opening. We can give you a summary of the numbers served and the financials at the meeting but a huge thanks to everyone who turned out to help set up, cook, serve, sell tickets, and cleanup after the breakfast. My estimate was 20-30 member/helpers.
See you at the meeting.
A big thank you goes out to all that worked the Hunter’s Breakfast. This has become a very popular event for the Club. Between the workers and members that attended the breakfast, we had approximately 30 members there. It is a great opportunity for our members to come together in a social atmosphere do the work of the organization and have a good time as well. Getting up early and being there by 4 am is not the most popular thing to do, but you were happy to do it and I think that youe were all gratified by the great attendance that we had as I was. We had $126.00 donated by members to help with the expenses for the meal. We served 166 meals and realized a net for the breakfast of $1056.00. Many thanks to all who came!!
The December PCCA meeting will be December 7th with meat loaf and all the fixings. A Turkey Shoot will be held in the range before the dinner and Charlie will be there with everything set up by 4:30 pm. Come and enjoy the social time with other members to see who can win the two turkeys. Rumor has it that they were pardoned over Thanksgiving to be available for the shoot, highly coveted and waiting to grace some ones table maybe for Christmas. COME AND HAVE SOME FUN WITH YOUR FELLOW MEMBERS!!
February 18, 2018 – Annual Ice Fishing Day for kids.
March 16,17,18, 2018 – The 80th Annual Eastern Maine Sportsman Show
As 2017 is coming to a close and looking back over the year, we are reminded that many of our most loyal members are getting on in age and unable to do the things that they did for the club for so many years. We work diligently to try to bring new blood into the organization in hopes to keep all of the programs that we sponsor alive and our assets in good condition. The greatest asset of our organization is its membership working together to this common cause. The year 2018 will mark our 90th year of organization as a Conservation Club and we will also be celebrating 80 years of the Eastern Maine Sportsman Show. During 2017 we lost 3 of our loyal members who have passed away. All three of these men had belonged to the club over 40 years and remained active until their death. They are certainly missed and will be remembered for years to come for their great dedication to this club.
ON BEHALF OF THE PCCA OFFICERS AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS I WANT TO WISH ALL OF OUR MEMBERS AND ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND OUR MEETINGS A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THE VERY BEST TO YOU ALL IN THE NEW YEAR.
